The first look Ajay Devgn’s upcoming historic drama Taanaji is out, in which he will be essaying the role of brave Maratha warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare.
The actor took to microblogging site Twitter on Thursday morning to share the first look with the caption, “He fought for his People, his Soil and his King Chhatrapati Shivaji. The unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, Subedar Taanaji Malusare. (sic)”
In Indian history, Taanaji is known for his bravery in the Battle of Sinhagad, which was fought in 1670’s, during which he helped Shivaji reconquer the fortress of Kondana with the help of his pet monitor lizard.
Taanaji had successfully entered the fort after fighting a fierce battle which ensued between Mughal fort keeper Udaybhan Rathod and him.
Even though Taanaji died after the Battle of Sinhagad, his heroics are still remembered by the Marathas in the form of plays, poems ad ballads; and this is what will also be show cased in the film.
Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Taanaji is being directed by Om Raut and the film will hit the screens next year.
As for Ajay Devgn, he has his hands full. He will next be seen in Baadshaho, which is a period heist action thriller, directed by Milan Luthria. It also features Emraan Hashmi, Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta, Sanjay Mishra and Vidyut Jammwal in the lead roles. It will hit the screens on September 1st.
Later, Devgn will be seen in Golmaal Again, the fourth movie of the Golmaal series, and alongside him will be Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Tabu, Shreyas Talpade, Prakash Raj, Kunal Khemu and Neil Nitin Mukesh. It is scheduled for an October release.
